Short Term and Emergency Resources

Short Term Financial Assistance
The Deans can provide emergency loans for students who need funds on a short term basis. The loans are ordinarily limited to $500 but there is some flexibility with regard to this limit. The application is available online and in the Deans' Office. The loan cannot be used to pay your student account.

Student Emergency Fund
The Student Emergency Fund has been created from a generous gift. Additional donations, which are tax deductible, are welcome. The purpose of the Fund is to provide financial assistance to students who are faced with an emergency hardship that affects their ability to continue their studies. Both undergraduate and graduate students are eligible to apply. Undergraduate award decisions are made by at least two members of a three-person Emergency Fund Committee.

A student seeking a grant from the Emergency Fund to deal with an emergency hardship should complete the Undergraduate Student Emergency Fund Application to explain the situation and justify the amount sought. Some detailing of the student's financial situation will be necessary to establish the need. This may include evidence of the student's financial resources as well as obligations and expenses. Awards are contingent on the availability of funds.

    • Medical, Dental, Mental Health Bills & Co-pays
    • Emergency travel
    • Other emergencies

Summer Storage Stipend

Beginning in summer 2026, Caltech will pilot a summer storage stipend program to help eligible students offset the cost of storing their personal items over the summer while they are away from campus. The stipend is available to returning students who are receiving full or near-full financial aid, and who are returning to on-campus housing in the Fall. Each student is responsible for making their own storage arrangements. Funding per student may be capped depending on demand, but we will make every effort to accommodate all requests according to the level of need.

The deadline for applications is June 10, 2026. Applications received after the deadline will be considered, but may not be processed in time for move-out.
